SEYCHELLES

Will not even contemplate staying there ever again! Booked in for a week on their "Couples Getaway" deal after checking their website for the look of a "typical" one bedroom apartment (but that was the more expensive room next door). Kitchen facilities were toaster, kettle, small microwave, bar fridge & 2 burner electric hotplate (which had not been cleaned after previous users had vacated). The room may have been acceptable to some for an overnight or weekend stay but not for a full week. There were coffee mugs but no glass tumblers were supplied, neither were there any cooking utensils such as tongs or as much as an egg slice. There was no clock/radio, hairdryer, cable TV, internet access or air conditioning, though there was a heater and 2 pedestal fans. Cleaning was very basic - vacuum the carpets and change the sheets. As I said, the hotplate had not been cleaned and there were layers of dust over the table, vanity, power points, etc. In my naivety I thought they were offering a good deal to get people in the place during off-season (similar places closer to the centre of town were booked out but it would appear that Seychelles didn't have any better than 50% occupancy for the week we were there). For less than $25/week more we could have stayed at a place less than 10 minutes drive away that is more modern and generously sized, includes a full size fridge, stove/oven, air conditioning, Austar, internet, use of heated spa, walking distance of beach, river, local club, fishing, kayaking, etc. The people who run Seychelles are very lazy. They used to have 2 BBQs but one has gone missing in action. The swimming pool was not cleaned during the week that we were there. The bed we slept in was very uncomfortable. They really don't appear to give a damn.
