A two and a half hour drive from Sydney and a couple of hours from Canberra. Nowra is situated on the Shoalhaven River with Bomaderry directly opposite on the northern side of the river.

Nowra is rapidly becoming a popular tourist centre and the principal town in the Shoalhaven district with close access to Berry, Shoalhaven Heads, Coolangatta, Greenwell Point, Culburra Beach (home of the Nowra Surf Club), Greenwell Point and the Jervis Bay area.

There has been close connections with the Australian Navy and helicopters are a familiar and friendly sight in the skies of Nowra.


  • A fine view of the picturesque Shoalhaven River from the Hanging Rock Lookout.
  • The Australian Naval Aviation Museum at HMAS Albatross house one of the finest collections of Military aircraft in Australia.
  • Jervis Bay National Park and Botanic garden featuring, marine and scenic beauty and a rich Aboriginal history.
  • Huskisson, a village full of history which can be traced back to the early boat building days. Popular spot for watching dolphins.
  • Shoalhaven River Walk. Ben's walk is a pleasant 5.5km track along south shore of the Shoalhaven river.
  • Many historic houses and properties can be viewed in the area.
  • Fishing, water skiing, canoeing and sailing are popular on the Shoalhaven River.
  • Bush walks available to view the abundant wildlife.
  • Visit the Shoalhaven Camellia Gardens at Bomaderry and walk along Bomaderry Creek to Bernie's lookout.
  • From Nowra it is 17 kms to Kangaroo Valley through lush mountain scenery and surrounded by spectacular escarpments.
  • Take an enjoyable round trip of 50kms to visit Jasper's Brush, Berry (with it's antique and craft shops), Shoalhaven Heads and Coolangatta.
